There are models that clean and charge on their own This feature could be beneficial for those with children or pets. The top performers in our tests also have good obstacle avoidance.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and Automatic Floor Cleaners its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. That makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they are very good at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we tested, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and it can have difficulty traversing transitions across surfaces like from hardwood to carpet.
iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station's external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot using the app or by voice.
In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of cordless vacs that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households however, it can also fit in well next to the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can move it around like the magic tool.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to suck up large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It is able to quickly change between handheld and automatic floor cleaners vacuum, and vice versa.
This model has a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also provides easy access to 2 attachments and the wand. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is still enough to clean most of a home that's average size but not long enough to cover every area (though the second time around usually will suffice). That's not to say this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on low-pile carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of the most expensive robot vacuum well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our testing, automatic floor cleaners and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is able to better move its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.
The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a longer battery life, can change its suction power mode manually, comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and can perform better on floors with bare or low-pile.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a wide range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is simple to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.
In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well with taller objects like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to monitor your pets or the kids if you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps to keep the robot's bin clear and improves suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for hard flooring. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dustbin that holds twice as much debris than competitors to keep the automatic cleaning robot area clear for maximum runtime. They also come with two side sweepers to clean along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which senses if it's picking up surface litter or embedded dirt and then automatically adjusts the power level. The vacuum also comes with an app that allows you to view the virtual map, manage functions, and schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and return it to its dock to charge by pressing a button. The app also lets you to customize the lights on top of the automatic vacuum using different colors so you can clearly see what areas it's focusing on or where it's stuck.
The app also makes it simple to steer the robot manually should you need to. My living room rug, for instance is darkly colored that can trip up some other robots. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, without registering it as an incline. And the ability to create weekly cleaning schedules is a fantastic time-saving feature.
